Like many, many businesses, our company faced a major downturn after the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Inventory had already been stacking up. Our largest customer extended payment terms then cut our price. Our bank of almost 20 years would not increase our line of credit.
As closing our doors became a real possibility, we started soul-searching. What would our legacy be? Who would remember the decades of work of all our devoted engineers and craftspeople? Who would tell the story of those German immigrants who started a highly technological business around their kitchen table?
We decided to make a lasting difference in our community, an impact that would survive manufacturing trends, economic cycles, and shifts in international trade.
We started helping kids.
As an active partner with Child Protective Services here in town, we’re helping give abused and neglected children the care and support all children should have. While our business reaches farther and farther, our roots grow deeper all the time.
